I have an eclectic background…
Hello! I’m ROSS JOHNSTON. I’m a designated accountant (CMA/CPA) of more than 15 years, with a background in management consulting, process and procedure improvement, financial modelling, strategic planning, supply chain, and project management.
So, what on earth am I doing heading up a jewellery company? For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with very well made mechanical things. This obsession really sparked an interest into the world of high-end mechanical watches and high-end custom jewellery. I’ve also been described as a bit of a clotheshorse. During university I worked for a high-end menswear company that gave me an incredible education and introduction into the world of high-end luxury menswear.
JEWELLERY, DONE BETTER.
“Beautiful, high quality bespoke engagement rings and fine jewellery crafted exclusively for you - without the traditional jewellery store high mark-up”.
Many years ago I briefly held the position of Head of Accounting and Finance at one of Canada's oldest jewellery stores/brands. While short lived, this role not only granted me valuable insights into various ready-to-wear jewellery brands on the market but also made me acutely aware of alternative, and in my view, superior approaches to delivering an exceptional jewellery experience and products to discerning clients.
In my opinion, the traditional high-cost, high-margin brick and mortar approach fell short. I am confident that my zero overhead method offers an elevated value proposition and an enriched client experience.
That role also solidified the fact that in no way was I ever going to be a stereotypical “accountant”. I purposefully chose the path of management accounting because I was always much more interested in strategy, business analysis, operations, and management with a emphasis on answering the ultimate question of “is there a better way of doing this?”. As a result, I developed a different style of jewellery business. This is JEWELLERY, DONE BETTER.
Philosophy
As a consumer, I hold a number of things to be very important when I make a purchasing decision…
The first is that I want exceptional value for my money. This can only happen when you receive the best QUALITY of products possible for the best possible PRICES. Quality is enduring. And Quality is something that should not be sacrificed.
Next, I LOVE buying things, but I HATE being sold things. There is a big distinction here (and this is the basis of a consumer behavioral theory known as reactance). I don’t want to sell you something. I want to help you buy something that you’re going to love. My model is based on creating an environment of trust and transparency. When you ultimately make your purchase, you should be doing so from a position of trust, education, and enthusiasm - not reluctance.
I want to be your jeweler for life. Whether you’re looking to create a handcrafted diamond engagement ring, start your fine jewelry collection, or pick out your 40-year anniversary present, I’m here to help. I want to make your experience enjoyable and the process as easy as saying “I do”.
